Programs at Reno Rescue
Serving our community, especially those in need of equine therapy and support is rooted deep in our mission. Our purpose is to help people heal and thrive physically and emotionally. What Reno Rescue does differently is help our horses to do the same. Our horses are often in need of a second lease on life when we first take them in, commonly abandoned and neglected. At Reno Rescue, we’ve created a special symbiotic relationship where horse and rider help heal each other.
Stable Moments
We are so proud to be the first equestrian facility on the West Coast to run this program to serve the foster youth of Washoe County. We train and provide a mentor and an equine partner to each child in the program. They meet weekly to provide the stability and support that these kids need in their lives. We are here consistently through residential changes, each year back to serve, even past adoption or return to biological parent homes. We run the sessions rain or shine through the school year having completed a trial program first and now a complete year of data, experience and happy memories.
Local Recovery Centers
We have multiple recovery centers that host regular equine therapy experiences where different groups including women, veterans and more come out to ride our rescue horses while being lead around our serene property. Not many facilities can offer the trail experience that we love to share. Thank you to our partners- Women's Empowerment Center, Crossroads Reno, and Bristlecone Recovery Center.
Disabled Athletes
This year we are partnering with the High Five Foundation to bring our experienced adaptive riding therapy to disabled athletes and veterans. They will have monthly dedicated instruction, riding, therapist guided equine therapy, horsemanship and access to our beautiful ranch surrounded by mountains and fresh air. We also currently offer these services to the VA.
Ranch Life
Thursdays evenings, about every month we offer a free horsemanship class. Join us to learn proper horse handling, grooming, tack/ equipment and more. This recommended for and will prepare students for lessons. Ages 6 and up welcome, age 10 and under require adult supervision. Sign up on our events page.
Respite Care Serving Washoe County
During summer months, our partners such as RAVE and Washoe County Health and Human Services join us at the ranch for hand lead riding experiences. They are also able to use our facilities, groom our rescue horses and have their dinner in one of the most beautiful places in the Sierras. This is a first time horse experience for most of the kids and young adults.
4H Verdi Country Riders
We partner with the local chapter of 4H to host meetings and clinics on our large property often using our rescue horses for the kids to learn from. We have many crossover opportunities for the kids in 4H to learn horsemanship at Reno Rescue hosted trainings and our lesson program.
Corporate Events & Volunteering
Many local companies bring their teams to volunteer, get outside, support our mission for caring for rescue animals and often fundraise.These events foster team building for groups of any size. We're so grateful for our partners such as The Rotary Club, ULine, and Ridgeline.
